When Jeremiah was ten-years-old he went through the worst moment of his life. At 2:00 am in the morning, while he slept on the couch in their living room, and his mom and her friends were upstairs, Jeremiah was woken up by men breaking in and flashlights in his face.
A S.W.A.T team was in his house and he was terrified, confused, and then, he saw his mom, in handcuffs. The police were putting her and her friends into the police cars. It was a police raid. They had a search warrant to search the house. They were looking for something.
He got to talk to her then, just for a moment, and she was crying, and he cried too. And then the police kept them apart, locked their dog up in the bathroom while they spent an hour searching the house. At that moment, Jeremiah became a victim.
They tore the house up, searching everywhere, and finally, the cops found what they had been looking for - drugs under his mom's bed. He was the innocent victim of an event he had noting to do with.
The last he saw of his mom that night was her being put into the back of another police car and driven away. He had to go and live with his grandparents, and then his aunt, and they ended up moving sixty miles from his hometown. The cops put his Mom in prison and parenting is now handled by his extended family, not his Mom.
His Mom is almost out of jail - just a few months from the telling of this story - but for Jeremiah, it has been a long and hard journey and that night will always be one of the scariest moments of his life. swat team, police, lights, tears, confusion, fear, drugs and most of all, being torn away from his Mom..A story time we'll never forget.
