The koalas at Symbio Wildlife Park in Sydney are some of the most chilled out characters on the face of the planet, and in the midst of this weeks crazy temperatures they got that little bit more chilled, if that is even possible.
With the temperature yesterday maxing out at over 40 degrees celsius, (104 degrees fahrenheit) Zoo Keeper Ash Clarke ensured the koala population at Symbio were more than comfortable, and provided them all with cooling ice packs to cuddle up, sit on, or simply do whatever they wanted with.
The koalas were over the moon to receive the coolers, and could not be quick enough to enjoy the respite from the heat offered, and of cause pats, and scratches from Zoo Keeper Ash.
During extreme temperature, Zoo Keepers at Symbio will always implement a heat management action plan to alleviate any adverse effects on the animals.
This can be anything from icey treats such as Icecakes, frozen fruits, iceblocks, or even scattered icecubes, place water spray misters in and around enclosures, set sprinklers up, provide cool packs (such as the ones featured in this video), place additional water play tubs inside enclosures and regularly monitor water intake of the animals.
