Nessa Barrett does things her own way. At just 19, she has evolved from social media starlet to
fullfledged musician —racking up hundreds of millions of streams and collabing with some of
the planet’s biggest artists, like Travis Barker.
Having performed everywhere from Jimmy Kimmel to Ellen to Lollapalooza, Nessa just released her debut EP, Pretty Poison on September 10, 2021. And that’s a particularly important date to Nessa because it is World Suicide Prevention Day. In fact, the thing we love most about Nessa
is that she’s not afraid to open up and talk about sensitive issues, whether it’s in her music
or in an interview with DC. Nessa uses her platform to advocate mental health and she’s always
candid about her own struggles.
As she puts it, “being able to open and be vulnerable can help others.” As part of our Push Your Own Story campaign, we were happy to sit down with Nessa to talk about her music, moving to LA and her focus on mental health advocacy.
