After all the debate surrounding the first season of Iron Fist, I thought that "Everybody loves me" would be a perfecly provocative (in a good way) song to use for Danny Rand. A nice joke for the least loved Defender so far.
But actually, I happen to REALLY like this Danny Rand, so the song for me fits because I think it's impossible not to love that adorable scrawny blond blueeyed little thing.
I love that they chose an actor who could highlight Danny's innocence, his nomatterwhat optimism, his youth sparkle. The Iron Fist is a hero but he is also 25 and this is so amazingly evident in the series. His age explains his immaturity, his childish pouts, his rage bursts, his sometimes unnerving behaviour. And all of this makes him DIFFERENT from the other Defenders and, like it or not, unique.
Now I don't know if in another part of the world another actor, Asian, African or bloody American Indian (just give it a cut with this racist bullshit, Danny was white in the comics), or an older actor, better built and more muscular (a badly conceived copy of Matt Murdock, whom we already have), with better martial arts knowledge (we're talking about actors, not professional fighters) or a different acting depht would have made it better.
What I know is that Finn Jones brought out the youthful purity and the childish glow of Danny Rand and this are qualities I wouldn't trade so easily in the name of a supposed antiracist (or antiactor, at this point) war.
Watch it without prejudice and enjoy!
