Cross Stitch #27 - Finishing a Pillow with Mitred Corners

Follow
Carolyn Mazzeo

After several requests I have put together a slideshow of how I created my cross stitch pillow. Please see below for further details regarding the project + links to the 2 YouTube videos that helped me complete it.

Cross Stitch Design: 11.5"W x 9"H
These measurements were obtained by allowing a 1" border around the entire design (measured at the widest point of the stitching) + a 1/4" seam allowance.

Side Panels: 2.5"W x 15"H
The width measurements were calculated to allow for a 2" finished border width + 1/4" + 1/4" seam allowances.
The length measurements were calculated by adding the height of the design (9") + the width of the finished border (2" x 2) + 1" at each end to allow extra fabric for the mitred corners.
2 of these side panels were cut.

Top & Bottom panels 2.5"W x 17.5"H:
The width measurements were calculated to allow for a 2" finished border width + 1/4" + 1/4" seam allowances.
The length measurements were calculated by adding the length of the design (11.5") + the width of the finished border (2" x 2) + 1" at each end to allow extra fabric for the mitred corners.

The fabric I used for my pillow was just normal cotton nonstretch material.
All seams were stitched using a 1/4" seam allowance.

Happy stitching :) x
